Revisting the past... Oklahoma State Basketball

This season of Oklahoma State basketball has been quite depressing... Painfully bad basketball and under performance across the board... Fred Gulley leaving... it can only go up from here, right? O, wait, Reger Dowell is leaving too? Well... crap. That's exactly the thought process I had. It has really reached levels that I didn't think I'd see. Being bad is bearable, but being bad + no hope for the future + a coach locked in for 10 years... well that's definitely not bearable.

So instead of looking at the current situation and wallowing in my misery, I decided to take a look back at the good ole days of oSu basketball and my personal memories in GIA...

1995 - oSu vs. Kansas
First memorable GIA experience. I remember being a young tyke that was excited to go to the game. Byrant Reeves had 33 points and 20 rebounds. I remember it being the loudest experience I've ever had. I couldn't hear my dad talk so we just sat there the whole time engrossed in the game. I don't remember attending any other games previous to my parents buying season tickets when GIA expanded. I know I did attend other games, as my dad tells me stories how I wouldn't even leave my seat to get a snack... I'd send a runner to do it for me. How even in blowouts I refused to leave early and was insulted at the thought that anyone else would want to leave either... This game made me the fanatic I am/was.

Being the young fan, Bryant Reeves was the star I'll never forget. I remember to this day receiving a signed basketball my mom game me for Christmas. That signed basketball is in my office today...

How the media picks your President for you...

Have you ever had the feeling that someone in your life that tells you "do whatever you want, I won't try and persuade you" isn't being truthful? They really have made little comments here or there to alter your opinion and get you to choose one restaurant or event over another? This is the feeling I get when I look at the presidential race how it is all shaping up... This article really spells it out quite nicely. The media frames the argument then says "ok, what you do YOU think"... as soon as we(the American public) gets off track, something happens to get back in the direction they want us. The 24-hour news cycle is leading to short news clips that get sensationalized and examined with a fine tooth comb. On top of this, as referenced in the article, the National Journal polled "insiders" and the overwhelming opinion was that we, the general public, aren't smart enough to pick who should be our candidate. While I definitely agree to an extent, the fact that the elite and media hold this opinion while controlling the flow of information at the same time is a scary thought. The moral? We shouldn't allow the media to shape our opinion of the candidates... we need to do a real investigation ourselves and truly identify who we think best represents us and can move this country in the right direction. In this case... they certainly don't know best...

Now on to other topics...

Bedlam is upon us...

It's finally Bedlam week... the annual match-up of the two major Oklahoma schools... Every year it seems is bigger than the last, and every year(recently), Oklahoma State has lost. As an oSu fan, it has been a tough road. Hopefully this year will be different. Here are my keys to an Oklahoma State win:

Hit Landry early and often
Landry has had a propencity to get a little rattled and start making mistakes. Without his security blanket(Ryan Broyles), he seems to have reverted back to Landry of his first 5 starts in an OU uniform. Hopefully the trend continues Saturday.

No Special Teams TDs or mistakes
Special Teams errors are always a key in games. Especially games of the magnitude we'll see Saturday. This season Ok State has made a few costly special teams errors(kickoff for a TD against Texas, onside kick at Iowa State, many fumbled punts), but only the Iowa State mistakes bit them in the butt. They need to be careful with the ball and make sure no big returns are broken. KICK IT THROUGH THE ENDZONE!!!
