I found this video online and found it very interesting. The man speaking is Lindsey Williams, a former chapel who claims to have been in the Alaskan oil fields. He claims that America has all the gas we need now, but we can't use it. He claims he was there when they discovered the Gull Island Oil Field which is supposedly the largest in the world. He wrote this book about the very same subject.
According to Lindsey, Henry Kissinger made a deal with foreign oil in the 70s, including Saudi Arabia, to buy their oil as long as they complied with 2 demands:
- They traded only in the dollar
- They bought US debt
Lindsey Williams says that the Saudi's can get a barrel of oil out of the ground for $5 a barrel. Then, the oil is bought by a middle man who he says is the IMF and the World Bank. He says these are the biggest profit makes because they control the prices. The IMF and World Bank then sell to the Oil Companies, who sell to the retailers.
OPEC is at max capacity. The US is at over 90% capacity. Yet for some reason no new oil refinery has been built in the US is over 20 years. In 1981, the US had 321 refineries. Today, their are just 149. It seems simple, all the US has to do is use the oil in the northern slopes of Alaska. But it isn't. If the US started using that oil, it would break the "contract" made in the 70s. Since we are no longer buying the oil from the Saudi's, they would not buy are national debt. Once again this would criple America and make the dollar worthless.
It is very interesting stuff. I'm not really sure what is true, but I am one that has always believed we should drill in Alaska. But this guy basically says no matter what we do, we are screwed. Either Americans go broke b/c of $5 or $6 gas, or the dollar becomes worthless. It is worth a watch if you have an hour and a half to waste.
Obviously you can't believe everything you read and I'm not sure how believable a lot of this stuff is. But I do really love to find stuff like this. I think it is good to find stuff that tests conventional wisdom and test what you find to be true. Lots of times it just leads to lots of questions and you can't decide what to believe, but imo, at least you have an open mind to at least explore.
